Summer Picnics & Baptisms 2023
Join us this summer as we come together as the body of Christ and seek to build and strengthen relationships with each other as well as celebrate new life in Christ through baptism. Scroll below the general information to find out specific information for each picnic.
Dates / Times
2023 Picnic Dates - all picnics start at 5:00PM
- Saturday, June 24 at PCC
- Sunday, July 30 at Fort Monroe
- Saturday, August 19 at Fort Monroe
Location
Two of the picnics (July 30 & August 19) will be held at Fort Monroe this summer - see below for directions to the picnic area. There is a covered picnic shelter at the site with picnic tables, but we encourage you to bring lawn chairs, ground blankets, etc. as well because the picnic shelter is not large enough to accommodate everyone. The June 24 picnic will be held at PCC on the front lawn. There is no covered shelter so please feel free to bring your own shelter as well as lawn chairs, ground blankets, etc.
Baptisms
The symbol of water baptism serves as a lasting, visible reminder that we have already had one funeral and that we are now risen with Christ. Candidates for baptism are required to complete a study sheet and discuss its application to life with a mentor prior to experiencing the sacrament. We'll baptize in the Chesapeake Bay during two of the picnics this summer - July 30 & August 19 as well as offer a baptism opportunity at PCC on June 24. Contact the Chapel office for more info.
Food & Drink
Each picnic we encourage you to bring a side dish or a dessert large enough to share with 10-12 others. See below under each picnic date for specifics on what to bring that evening. PCC provides hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, drinks, condiments, and plates / napkins / utensils / cups. We do ask for a few volunteers to help with food prep and setup - please contact Peter Grimes if you are interested in helping with this.
Activities at the Picnic
We'll always highlight some aspect of our community life at PCC at the picnics by hearing from those being baptized or hearing other stories about what God is doing in people's lives. We'll enjoy fellowship, conversations around the table, and other fun outdoor games. Children are welcome and we will have open-ended activities for them.
Inclement Weather
If thunderstorms or other potentially dangerous types of weather are threatening on the day of the picnic, make sure to check PCC's website for any last minute news regarding the status of the picnic. We'll make sure to post something on the home page by 4:00PM the day of the picnic to let you know if the picnic is happening or not. We'll also send out a notification through the PCC mobile app if the picnic gets canceled. If you don't have the PCC app, you can get it here.
